Concert Season Chair Tests and Band Placements

Each band period has been assigned two chair tests that will be due before Thanksgiving Break. Please check Schoology for specifics. Several of our band sections need to be rebalanced as we head into concert season. We will use the data from these two chair tests, as well as other upcoming assignments, and general teacher observations to make sure each student is in the correct band class for the Spring semester. We need to make sure each section is balanced from a quantity standpoing, but we also need to make sure each student’s work ethic and musical ability level matches the expectations of each performing ensemble. The audition we held back in May before the director transition set us up well for Marching Season, but now we need to begin shifting gears into Concert Season.

The Wind Ensemble (1st period) will be centered around Grade 4, 5 and 6 Literature, Symphonic Band (5th) will be centered around Grade 3 and 4 Literature, and the Concert Band (6th) will be centered around Grade 2 and 3 Literature in general.

Percussionists, make sure you have also checked Schoology for the information needed for your Upcoming Concert Season Auditions.

Drums Along the Brazos Drumline Contest

This went amazingly well again this year. I can’t believe this is already our 7th year of running this event. Thank you so much to all of the Boosters and Students that pitched in so much time, talents, and even money to help everything run smoothly. Several bands from all over the State were impacted by our College Station hospitality this weekend, so Thank You again!

TMEA Region Band All State Auditions

Our Deadline to enter you into the high school TMEA Region Band Audition Process is fast-approaching. It is the required expectation of every student in Wind Ensemble to participate in this Audition and it is highly encouraged for every student in the Symphonic Band. We would also like to encourage as many students that are interested from the Concert Band to enter, especially the Freshman Track. The audition for the primary high school track is Saturday, Dec. 7th. The freshman only track audition is the following Saturday, on Dec. 14th. Freshman, you can enter both tracks if you want. If you make one of the Region bands on the first weekend, your name can be pulled from the audition on the freshman only weekend. Please fill out this Region Band Form so we can get your entry taken care of.

Football Playoff Games

Our Football Team has made it to the Playoff Season once again! Congrats to them on such a hard fought comeback Victory in the 2nd half of the game Friday night. I really appreciate you guys and your support of the team. We are the largest School Spirit Organization at CSHS and we can help motivate and encourage the Team in an incredible way! Our First Playoff Game is actually this Friday @ CSHS @ 7PM. Call time will be approximately 5:45. Details will be sent later this week.

Playoff Game Attendance

Since we don’t know how long Playoff Season will last we want to let you know our expectations on Attendance. In general, we need everyone to be available to support the Cougars at every game; it’s part of our job. We also know that there is some flexibility here as we get closer to the Thanksgiving Weekend and other Holidays. If there is a good reason that you can not make it to one of our Playoff Games, we just need you to submit the Absence Request like normal and we can let you know whether it will be excused or unexcused. Look ahead to your schedule now and let us know so we can have time to communicate. Again, our Football Team has supported us over and over again this season, now it’s our turn to continue to support them.

Picture Day

Photo Texas will be set up to take our Marching Season Individual Portraits this Wednesday to be used for our Band Composite. We will have some time set up before school and during Band Classes. If you or your family want to order anything from them, order forms will be going home on Monday. Need to bring these back with you on Wednesday/ Also, you can view their offerings at these links : Form 1 and Form 2
