Updates and Announcements

Summer Band Week 1 Begins Monday August 3rd

We’ve just had a great week with Leadership working Hard, Color Guard and Drumline beginning their Practices as well as New Marchers showing up to learn some Fundamentals to help get more comfortable with Marching Band. We are very excited to see everyone that can make it next week. Here are a few things for everyone to know about next week:

● After spending the last two days outside from 8 – 11, We have decided to move the daily practice schedule next week up a little earlier to begin at 7:30AM and go to 10:30AM . We apologize for the inconvenience if there is one. This will allow us to stay a little cooler a little longer. Arrive early so you can go through the Check in Process each day. (See below)

● No Instruments needed on Monday morning unless you are in the Percussion Section. Everyone else will be doing Visual Fundamentals of Marching. We will begin playing on Tuesday. When you bring Instruments, we will also need you to bring your own Binder and Flip Folders for now while we wait on our shipment of Band Binders.

● Mr. Dixon has uploaded all of our current music to the Summer Band Schoology Group so you have access to what you should begin practicing. Let us know if you are not in that group.

● Every day that you come to Summer Band you must do several things:

○ Bring and Wear your Mask.

○ Fill out the COVID Pre Screen Form each morning after you get up.

○ Bring your new Band Water Jug filled with water if we’ve gotten it to you already. If you don’t have one yet, bring a large jug from home the first day. You will be sent home if you have nothing.

○ First place to go is to the Canopy to check in and take your temperature.

○ Eat a Breakfast that does not include Dairy, but has good protein and carbs. Drink Lots of Water and lay off of the Soft Drinks for now. The heat and physical activity will affect you more than you think if you don’t do some things to prevent it.

○ Try to use the Restroom at your house. We can only allow one person in the Restroom at a time.

○ Sunscreen, caps, sunglasses are all good things too!

○ Once you are done with rehearsal, I recommend showering and changing clothes as soon as you get home. This is also a good habit to be in if you are coming to school in Person, shower and change clothes as soon as you get home.

The Official Start Date for School has been moved to August 18th

We had already planned two tentative dates for the week of August 10th and now are ready to complete the new schedule for that week with the new Start date Announcement.

Week 2 of Summer Band (August 10th – 14th) will now officially include three rehearsals in the evenings. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings will be outdoors from 6:30PM to 9:00PM each day.

We will NOT have a rehearsal on Monday the 17th, the day before school starts, but once school is up and running we will continue with Monday and Thursday evening rehearsals from 6:30PM – 9:00PM. If you look through the Band Calendar you will see a few times that we will have to move to another night of the week, because of a Holiday or another conflict. Please check over and subscribe to the Cougar Band and Guard Google Calendar, which you can find at our website.
