General Announcements
Area Auditions and 5A Texas All-State Band Achievements
Each year around 70,000 students begin the audition process that leads to being selected as one of the 1,800 student musicians into one of the All State Ensembles. Only 165 students across the State could be selected to the 5A All State Band. This year the Cougar Band had 24 Students qualify for Area to earn the chance to audition for the All State Band and we are very proud of them for their hard work all semester and achievements. Congratulations to the following Band members who have earned a position in the prestigious Texas 5A All State Band:
Noah Zhou – Clarinet, Anderson Kurk – Trombone (2nd Year), Jack Montgomery – Euphonium!!!
Concert Attire for Spring Semester
This semester we will be asking students to wear a Professional-Looking ALL BLACK for the concerts this spring. These events will include Chamber Night, Night of Percussion, Pre-UIL and our UIL Concert. Students can use a variety of clothing to achieve this but it needs to be all black, including shoes. Click HERE for a few examples of what this should look like. If you have any questions or need help locating attire please contact a director, we would be happy to help. Having a student provided uniform will be much easier than checking out dresses and tuxes this year due to the restrictions from COVID.
Students in Quarantine – Synchronous Classes
Students who are in quarantine will be taught this semester in a Synchronous manner – meaning those students that are at home will be asked to log into Zoom and meet during their assigned band class. Students will be expected to play along and be part of the class. Students who do not join in their scheduled Zoom band class will be counted absent. There will be an exception for those students who are experiencing symptoms of COVID if you are not able to play.
Music will be available for students in Schoology if they missed something new.

Virtual Students Weekly Info
Students who are doing Virtual Band for the second semester will begin in Schoology on Monday. Assignments will be posted each weekday morning. We will be using a program called SmartMusic to assist in practicing and performing. The major goal for this semester is to build technique and perform. Each six weeks they will be working to develop better instrument technique and then also perform live over Zoom a solo. By the end of the semester they will do a live Zoom Solo Recital with all three pieces they learned.
