Weekly Director’s Updates

this week
Updates & Announcements
Concert season chair tests and band placements
Each band period has been assigned two chair tests that will be due before Thanksgiving Break. Please check Schoology for specifics. Several of our band sections need to be rebalanced as we head into concert season. We will use the data from these two chair tests, as well as other upcoming assignments and general teacher observations to make sure each student is in the correct band class for the Spring semester. We need to make sure each section is balanced from a quantity standpoint, but we also need to make sure each student’s work ethic and musical ability level matches the expectations of each performing ensemble. The audition we held back in May before the director transition set us up well for marching season, but now we need to begin shifting gears to concert season.
The Wind Ensemble (1st period) will be centered around Grade 4, 5, and 6 literature.
The Symphonic Band (5th period) will be centered around Grade 3 and 4 literature, and the Concert Band (6th period) will be centered around Grade 2 and e literature, in general.
Percussionists, make sure you have also checked Schoology for the information needed for your upcoming concert season auditions.
Last home game this friday / Senior Night / CSHS vs. Magnolia West
Seniors, we will be recognizing you at our final home game during halftime, right after we perform for the Strutters. Parents/guardians of Band and Guard seniors, please join us on the track near the end of the 2nd quarter so you can stand with your senior as we recognize them on the field.
Please reply to this form so we can announce the correct names on Friday. We will be performing our show after the game for our final performance of It’s In the Stars. More information to come.
Drums Along the Brazos Drumline Contest
We need volunteers, both students and parents, to sign up to help run our drumline contest. We have an amazing 20 drumlines signed up to perform for us this year. Be looking for an email from Lora Nolen with more information. The dry run-through of the contest for all volunteers is Thursday, Nov. 7 at 5:30 pm. Meet in the band hall. The contest is Saturday, November 9th at our stadium. You can find out more details at drumsalongthebrazos.com.
TMEA Region Band All-State Auditions
The deadline to enter the TMEA Region Band Audition process is fast approaching! It is the expectation of every student in Wind Ensemble to participate in this audition, and it is highly encouraged for every student in Symphonic Band. We would also like as many students that are interested from the Concert Band to enter, especially the freshmen track. The audition for the primary high school track is Saturday, December 7. The freshmen only track audition is the following Saturday on December 14th. Freshmen, you can enter both tracks if you want. If you make one of the Region bands on the first weekend, your name can be pulled from the audition on the freshmen only weekend. Please fill out this Region band form so we can get your registration taken care of.
