Weekly Director’s Updates

this week
Updates and Announcements
It’s the Beginning of a new semester and there will be a lot of things going on, so here are some updates for you:
All State/Area Audition Results
On Saturday, 22 of our Band Members that qualified for TMEA Area in December auditioned for a position in the 5A All State Symphonic Band. The auditions were held at Duncanville HS. This audition is one of the most competitive auditions available to high school students as an individual because thousands of 5A Band students from around the State are seeking to make it into the 5A Symphonic Band of about 150 members. Only a handful can be selected from each Area Audition around the state.
We are so proud of all of the students that have worked diligently towards the auditions yesterday. Congratulations Reno Ruiz (euphonium), Anderson Kurk (tenor trombone), Abby Perryman (clarinet), and Ricky Arellano (oboe) for their All-State Band placement!
Region Band Clinic and Concert, Jan. 17th – 18th
If you were one of the 44 students that qualified for one of our Region Bands, we will be leaving Friday morning for the Rehearsals and Concert in Copperas Cove. Make sure you talk to your teachers ahead of time to let them know you will be missing their classes on Friday. Please see this Itinerary for more details.
Beauty and the Beast CSHS Fine Arts Musical
Mr. Dixon and several students are currently involved in rehearsals for the Musical to get ready for the upcoming performances. Please be sure to come support the CSHS Fine Arts by attending one of the Beauty and the Beast showings from Wednesday 1/27 to Saturday 2/1.
UIL Solo and Ensemble (Fri, Feb. 7th at AMCHS)
There are a few of you that would like to sign up for the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest in February. There is a QR Code in the Band Hall for you to sign up and fill out the form. The deadline to sign up is this Thursday, Jan. 16th. You are responsible for the entry fee of the contest (approx $9 per soloist). That money is due by the end of January to Mr. Seale. Checks can be made to CSHS Band.
CSHS Full Orchestra UIL Event
Select Band members will have the opportunity to perform with our Orchestra program for their UIL Orchestra Concert and Sight Reading Contest on Tuesday, March 3rd. It has been 4 years since we have been able to offer this to our students and are excited to begin preparing. More info will be coming soon directly to those involved.
Band UIL Concert and Sight Reading Season
Our Wind Ensemble, Symphonic and Concert Bands have begun the process of preparing for one of our most important events of Concert Season, the UIL C&SR Contest on Thursday, March 26th which is hosted at CSHS. Each Band will perform three prepared musical selections and sight-read one brand new piece of music for the Judges. Make plans to support these hard working and talented students during that event. More details to come as we get closer to the event. Some of the performances will be during the school day and some will be after school hours. We will also be having a Pre UIL Concert before Spring Break in order for us to be prepared. Currently this is scheduled for the evening of March 5th, but stay tuned in case it needs to be changed.
Night of Percussion Concert
Percussion students are currently receiving solos and ensembles to start working on for their annual Night of Percussion Concert. This year the concert is scheduled for Saturday, Feb 22nd at CSHS. This is always a very entertaining evening!
Winterguard
Our Colorguard students are staying very busy improving their skills and working on a new show for the indoor Winterguard Season. They started auditioning and preparing for their new season not long after our marching season ended last November. They will have several performances and competitions throughout the months of February and March as they compete in the TCGC (Texas Colorguard Circuit).
