Updates & Announcements

Your College Station HS Cougar Band made CSISD History

Saturday, October 26th, 2019.

It’s hard to know where to begin with this announcement, so bear with me, this will be a long one! First of all, I need to let you all know how amazingly proud and pleased Mr. Dixon, Mrs. Delgado and I are of you and everything you have accomplished in putting together this incredible marching band show, “ It’s in the Stars” this season. Not just because of the awards and success that we have received at every contest that we participated in, but more importantly because of how we have all been stretched well beyond our comfort zones and have grown so much in maturity as musicians, performers, and staff. We have all sacrificed so much to do this thing we call marching band and we have done it for each other so we could come together to create something truly special that has created so many wonderful memories that we will never forget. Even though we will get a lot of recognition as making history for College Station ISD yesterday (and this is something we can and should be very proud of), there are a couple things that have impacted me the most. One was being able to experience everything yesterday with 250+ of my Cougar Band Family. And another one was, on a personal level, being able to have my wife and kids there to encourage and support me/us every step of the way. It is something that I will never forget.

Finally, it is totally acceptable for us to feel a sense of regret or disappointment over not reaching one of our goals of not making it to the UIL State Marching Contest this year. That feeling is there because you have bought in to the full experience of putting on a production like this. We have been pushing you all year to NOT have apathy towards rehearsals, practicing and performances, and you have grown greatly in this area. Any time you compete with heart, passion, and intensity like you did this season, you should have those feelings when things don’t totally go your way. Now hear this clearly–what you choose to do with those feelings and what actions you take next are critical. Use those feelings as fuel to push yourself to become a better musician, performer, marcher and member of the Cougar Band & Guard. Remember ALL of the things that we HAVE accomplished throughout this season and show gratitude to the people that have helped you get here. Support others in the same activities and others in your school and community that are also pouring their time and energy into their chosen activities. Make a few course corrections and decisions that will help you continue to build towards the next goals that we will set out to achieve. The Cougar Band & Guard has had an amazing past, the most incredible season to date, and an extremely bright future! I am so glad that all of you have chosen to be a part of it.

Now on to the Thank You notes : My first and most heartfelt thank you needs to go to the incredible Mr. Dixon! His amazing teaching skills, character, and ability to solve problems are directly related to all of our success this Season on and off the field. Also to Mrs. Delgado for teaching, running administration, and coordinating all of the activities related to our amazing Color Guard Program. Winter Guard is right around the corner! You are both so appreciated for everything you do for our students; even when it goes unnoticed to most. The Tech staff throughout the Band & Guard has truly been inspiring to work with this season. You all bring energy and creativity into our program and we would not be the same without you. One of the groups in our village that I am most in awe of is our Cougar Band Boosters! The visible support that all of you show for your children is incredible, unique, and very special. To make it even more amazing is that you all do it as Volunteers! I appreciate our school district administration, Mr. Eaks, Mrs. Parkerson, Dr. Ealy, Mr. Martindale, and the many CSHS teachers that texted me with their support throughout the day. I have many more, but I will stop for now so I can do something else with my Sunday Afternoon 🙂 Thank You!

Away Game this week! FB Game vs. Tomball HS.

Away Game Itinerary coming soon. We will be performing at least part of our Award winning show at this game, but possibly not the entire show. I want to make sure to give the Tomball Band ample opportunity to have enough time at half time to get a good run of their show since they qualified for the State Marching Band Contest! This will be a great opportunity for us to support them and enjoy their show on Friday without having to be in direct competition.

As you can see from the Week at a Glance above, the outside of school time rehearsal schedule is now greatly reduced! Since we are no longer competing with our show, we will only meet this Friday morning to do a little maintenance on our performance for the game. I encourage you to use your time wisely as you prepare for Region Band Auditions and our other musical endeavors at CSHS.

Bring Concert Horns on Monday. We need to start getting these ready for Holiday Concerts, Region Band, and Concert Season. We will have announcements, Study Hall, and Band Hall Clean Up on Monday.
